BACKGROUND Sordid Lives is a black comedy about white trash! In the “coming out” story, three generations of a small Texas family prepare for a funeral, and that’s when the hilarious, sad, trashy truth about their lives runs amuck! The original production opened in 1996 at Los Angeles' Theatre Theatre and was sold-out for its entire 14 month run. Southern Baptist Sissies is Del Shores' fifth installment of Texas-based comedic plays with heart. The play originally opened at the Zephyr Theatre in 2000. The show came back to Los Angeles (after a sold-out run in Dallas) in 2002. It again was launched in Los Angeles in 2006 for a revival of all six Shores plays. The GLAAD Award-Winning Southern Baptist Sissies has made L.A. history - as the longest running play on the Zephyr Theatre's stage. The theatre celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2006. |

The GLAAD Award-Winning Southern Baptist Sissies has made L.A. history - as the longest running play on the Zephyr Theatre's stage. The theatre celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2006. The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife first opened in 2003. It became the most awarded theatre production of the year with more than 14 Los Angeles Theatre Awards, including Best Production, Best Lead Performance – Beth Grant, and Best World Premiere from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle; Best Lead Actress – Beth Grant from the Ovation Awards; Best Production and Best Playwright from the NAACP Theatre Awards; Best Production, Best Playwright, Best Direction, Best Lead Performance – Beth Grant, and Best Supporting Performance – Dale Dickey, from the Back Stage West Garland Awards; and Best Playwright, Best Supporting Actor – David Steen, Best Ensemble – Beth Grant, Dale Dickey, Debby Holiday, Octavia Spencer, David Steen, from the L.A. Weekly Awards. The play explores the hidden emotions, shame, and secrecy battered women face, while also offering hope, healing, and truth. A delicate blend of frightened humor and pain, it delves right into the heart of abuse. In just a mere two hours audiences will journey into a world that could fill a lifetime. Explosive one-sided arguments erupt and build, until one disastrous night it all goes too far and the lives of those in the trailer park will never be the same. |
